It is not a Sump!

Pipe networks are complex network of settings, parts and styles.  The prior practices of displaying the pipe and structure does not always help.  Have you wondered why your Structure appears to show a sump in profile?   The gripe is actually easy to fix.

You see, some see this and ask “Why are you showing sumps in these structures?”

You reply – “They don’t”

Maybe you label the sump, in plan and profile but the reviewer/colleague/skeptic isn’t convinced.  They get hung up by the graphic display of the bottom of the structure.

The solution is found a little farther down on the Structure Properties dialog box.  The value you search for is the floor thickness.   While it is not directly available to edit here, it can be fixed.

Yes, we need to use Part Builder.

From the Ribbon to the Dialog box.

Located the structure you want to edit and select the Modify Part Sizes.

Right-Mouse click on the Size Parameters and select edit values.  In this case, the abbreviation we seek is pretty simply to spot – Fth, or FloorThickness.   Change that value to something small – like Zero.

Save the part, verify your part list reflects the value you changed and check your profile view and part properties.

You now should have something that looks like:

[It is a little obvious that in the situation presented above, the bottom of the pipe is shown below the bottom of the structure.  We normally do not show the outside edge of our sewer pipes, so this method does assume your lower drawn sewer line is actually the inside invert. The image is shown to illustrate the Floor Thickness in a little more obvious fashion.]
