Time to tweak the template

AutoCAD Civil 3d 2011 is now out in the wild after Autodesk released it to subscription customers on the subscription website.    In many cases, most people will either use the OOTB templates, and other may take their 2010 templates, open it with 2011 and perform a Save as.. and save the template as the 2011 template.  Personally, I prefer the later.

To Grade a Sewer!

I tried to plant the seed a couple of years ago while at CAD Camp, but they didn’t bite.  I will need to write this up in a little more detail, but again, want to just plant the seed.

“Thank you”

More often than not in the consulting and services industry you only hear from your clients when there is a problem. So when you get unsolicited feedback that is positive, it reminds you of why we work so hard. Below is an email we received today from one of our Civil 3D clients.

Mark & Marc –

Thank you for providing a great service to our industry and specifically our company.  I still receive emails from our previous Autodesk reseller and got an invite to a free, one-hour webinar outlining what was new in C3D 2011.  Since it was free, I signed up for it to get a head start when ‘11 is rolled out later this month.  They had a Q&A at the end of the 45-minute presentation, which was at least 1/3 sales fluff and self-promotion, at which time I asked what I thought was a very simple, straight-forward question.  I got a chuckle from the presenter who replied it was “a loaded question” and proceeded to talk around it.  So after the webinar, I did what I should have done from the beginning and submitted the same question via a ticket through your web portal.  Not only did I get a response in less than five minutes, it was a simple, direct, four-sentence answer to my question.  So I was reminded again why we left that reseller and partner with SCI / Engineered Efficiency.  Not only do you provide the FREE support service, you do it better than the other guys.  So again, thank you.

Sincerely,

Nathan P. Kass, P.E., L.S.I.

A subscription treat

Autodesk briefly announced during Civil 3d blogger day that they will be releasing Autodesk® Storm and Sanitary Analysis to subscription members as a download.  This is a North America offering for subscription members for AutoCAD Map and AutoCAD Civil 3d users only.  This product, as Dana puts it, was the product formerly known as StormNET(For some reason, I feel like waiting for the purple rain now…)

AutoCAD Civil 3d 2011 – Highlights

Last week I was among the privileged few who were invited to attend Autodesk’s kickoff for the 2011 series of products.  Unlike the base product invitees, we Civil 3d blogger had a virtual meeting that spanned the globe. {that’s pretty cool just thinking about the global impact, if I say so myself…}  Here are a couple of highlights of the 2011 product:
